A few weeks ago I ran into one of my favorite professors from graduate school. We hugged and squealed and then I asked if she’d like to have coffee and catch up a bit?
Oh, my gosh – well – I could – no – I better not, I have a million things to do – what about March? March, I said? March, yes, it’ll be easier for me then, she replied. I must have looked like an idiot standing there, get this…in the door of Starbucks! Convenient place for coffee, right?
No problem I said, totally lying. So, with another hug and a squeal she was gone.
In these situations I usually wonder if I’ve done something bad that I don’t even know about? And, I usually end up feeling weird. Then I got to thinking about her POB.
What’s this, you ask? It’s Pattern of Behavior.
When exchanges like this happen, we usually question or blame ourselves first. Anyway, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t examine your own behavior what I’m saying is stop and ask; is this their POB?
Although I think the world of her, I remembered that this IS just how she lives her life. ALWAYS wanting to get together, but ALWAYS having a million things to do instead.
Then I had this thought…If you’re alive you’ll always have things to do. And, thankfully you will get to choose if you let the to-do list become your life or if you manage the list and live your life.
By the way, we recently meet for coffe – imagine that!
